Health Commission findings are endorsed by Redditch councillors

Redditch Editorial 12th Mar, 2017   0

THE findings of the Redditch Health Commission have received a resounding endorsement from local councillors.

However hopes of having all 12 recommendations unanimously approved by the borough were dashed when the Conservative group decided to abstain on Recommendation 12.

Despite this Coun Bill Hartnett, the leader of Redditch borough council said he was delighted with the passage of the document and the response from the public which created it.

“I made a plea to the chamber for all 12 recommendations to be carried and in the end no one voted against them.

“The only minor blip was with Recommendation 12 with the Conservative group abstaining but overall, delighted is the short answer.”

The commission was borne out of the consultation document launched by local doctors in Worcestershire into their plans to alter the range of health care services in the county, including endorsing plans to withdraw some emergency services from the Alex.

In all, more than 400 people took part in the health commission which was watched by more than 8,000 on Facebook.

Recommendation 12 dealt with the suggested answers to the consultation document as distilled from those who took part and called on the commission to endorse those answers.

Coun Hartnett has now drafted letters to local doctors and hospital leaders giving the commissions verdict on their proposals.R
