Open invitation as litter pick drive launched to clean up Redditch

Ross Crawford 13th Mar, 2017   0

RESIDENTS are invited to roll up their sleeves and join local councillors for a litter pick in the Smallwood area of Redditch this Saturday, March 18.

The initiative follows a ‘deep clean’ by the county council of local streets earlier this month and comes just before new signs are erected asking everyone to respect where they live.

Redditch borough council is also offering resources and support to any other people or groups that want to organise local community litter-picks for the Great British Spring Clean – and inviting nominations for new locations to focus on after Smallwood.

For anyone planning community litter picks the borough council will loan out litter pickers, provide refuse sacks, come and collect the litter, and offer advice and support.

Councillor Debbie Chance (Lab, Central) the borough council’s portfolio holder for environmental services, said: “The Great British Spring Clean may just be one weekend a year but we’re cleaning in our communities every day. If you’d like to bring a big clean up to a place near you, let us know and we will support you all year round.”

To nominate an area for an anti-litter focus, go to www.redditchbc.gov.uk/clean or contact your ward councillor.

All this wishing to help this Saturday should meet at the bottom of Millsboro Road, Asda end, at 10.45am.
