Parish council backs drive to set up new youth club in Studley

STUDLEY parish council is to look into setting up a youth club in the village.

The aim is to bring together a number of agencies and interested parties with a view to providing some sort of focal point for local youngsters.

Councillors heard that at the moment only the parish church offers somewhere for young people in the village to go, running a popular Sunday evening cafe with pool and table tennis from the parish centre.

It also provides a hot chocolate stop on Friday evenings – come rain or shine – by the recreation ground.

However the Church’s efforts to have a proper youth club and cafe set up at the old Studley Centre were dashed when residents objected to the idea of the old parish centre being sold off to pay for the venture.

Now the parish council led by Coun eric Holder has been busy looking for other possible venues with both the Methodist Church and Baptist Church expressing interest in providing premises.

“We could set up a meeting of interested parties, the parish council and churches and look at how we can move forward by taking a multi-agency approach,” said Coun Maureen Rickhards.

This was agreed and the council is to start formally looking into setting up a youth club in the village.
