TOP tips for keeping healthy at home and avoiding unnecessary trips to the doctor or hospital have been issued by NHS England.
As spring has sprung, NHS England (West Midlands) is encouraging everyone to check out what they have in their medicine cabinet.
Stock items including cough medicine, cold and flu remedies and painkillers are a must, and oral re-hydration medication and diarrhoea tablets are also handy to keep in.
General first aid items like bandages, plasters, sterile dressings, antiseptic wipes and antiseptic should also be kept topped up to treat minor mishaps at home.
Tweezers, a themormeter, eyewash solution and medical tape are also useful.
Illnesses like flu, coughs and colds are usually associated with winter weather, however they can strike at any time so it is important to have a well-stocked medicine cabinet all year round.
People who have an injury that they cannot treat at home or who need support, should call NHS 111. Visit www.nhs.uk/staywell for more information.
