YOUNGSTERS at a Redditch first school were joined by some special guests at the opening of their new school playground last week.
Last Friday (March 24) staff and pupils at Beoley First School celebrated the opening of their eagerly-anticipated Trim Trail playground alongside some cartoon friends.
The school’s PTA was asked to help support the outdoor project last summer when the previous equipment had to be removed due to its age and poor condition.
Since then, fundraisers have collected more than £15,000 to install the new all-weather flooring and trim trail equipment.
The various phases of the project have been achieved with grants funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund and an award from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme.
The PTA also received donations from VVS Service Station (Beoley), Councillor June Griffiths, Iain Johnson of Rigby & Rigby Ltd and The Redditch Lions.
The PTA also ran a variety of fundraising events in school, such as a Back to School Disco, Halloween Spooktacular and a Star Gazing Evening and would like to thank the parents and children for their support of these events.
Chair of governors and PTA secretary, Sallie-Ann Eaton, said: “We weren’t sure this was a project we were going to be able to pull off, due the amount of money we needed, but we are all absolutely thrilled to have been able to provide this fantastic facility for the children and would like to thank everyone who has supported us to reach our goal.
“The new equipment has been a great hit with the children and they are using it during PE lessons and multi-skills activities as well as during their break times.”
