A TALENTED cricketer from Redditch has turned his hand to teaching and sharing his love of the sport with youngsters in the town.
Tom Underhill, alongside his Astwood Bank teammate and friend Pete Alexander, launched AU Sport & Education last year in a bid to get kids active and excited about sport – particularly cricket.
Tom, who played in Worcestershire’s County Cricket Academy for three years and represented Worcestershire’s 2nd XI, said: “I always loved football when I was at school – as many lads do – but when I tried my hand at cricket, I realised it was really something special.
“Since starting the business, Pete and I have set up a number of partnerships with schools and clubs and created new opportunities for children and adults to be active and passionate about sport.”
The 22 year-old has been coaching in schools and sports clubs around Redditch for more than five years and is still keen to share his passion for cricket with budding youngsters who want to develop their skills on the pitch.
“Sport has always been a big part of my life, especially cricket,” he added.
“Through my experience playing high level cricket and my love of sport in general, I am keen to pass on my knowledge and expertise to the next generation.
“My aim is to make sport and fitness enjoyable and safe, so it becomes a lifestyle choice for all children in the future.”
Based in Astwood Bank, AU Sport currently have three sessions a week for four to nine year-olds of all abilities at Birchensale Middle school on Tuesdays, at Aston Fields Middle on Wednesdays and at Astwood Bank First school on Fridays.
