AN appeal has gone out to Redditch residents to play host to one or two French students coming over to study English for a fortnight this summer.
The call comes from Plymouth Road resident Celine Dommart (LEFT) who works for French exchange company LEC.
“I’m hoping we can get some Redditch families who might have a spare room and who would be able to put a student up for the two weeks,” said Celine, who with her husband Cris Tolley also sings with local cafe jazz outfit Montparnasse.
She said the students, aged 16 to 17, would be busy during the day but should be integrated into family life in the evening – and in exchange the hosts would be paid for their efforts by LEC as a thank you.
“Ideally I’m looking for between 15 to 20 families and students can be housed either singly or in twos,” said Celine.
“Hosts will be expected to provide breakfast, a packed lunch and evening meal however they won’t have to speak French as the students will be there to polish their English.”
For Redditch families it represents an opportunity to extend the hand of friendship, cement the ‘entente cordiale’ between Britain and France – and get paid into the bargain.
