Three women have escaped serious injury despite the car they were in crashing over a bridge in Redditch and coming to rest in some trees.

At around 6.38am on Sunday (April 2) the Peugeot soft-top car came off a bridge near Ravensbank Drive and landed on its side, wedged between a tree and lamp post.

Emergency services were called to the scene and teams from West Midlands Ambulance attended to help the three passengers who were each able to get themselves out of the the crashed car.

The driver, a 35 year-old woman, was treated for glass to the eyes, abrasions to both legs and possible back injuries.

The frontseat passenger, a 39 year-old woman, had head injuries and was given pain relief before being taken to hospital.

A 29-year-old woman, who was sitting in the back seat of the car was given treatment at the scene and immobilised after complaining of back pain.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived, they found a car lying on its side against a tree off the side of a bridge.

“Considering the position the car ended up in, the potential for much more serious injuries is clear.”

Fire crews from Redditch attended alongside the three ambulances and all the women were taken the Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
