STAFF at Worcestershire Royal have been widely praised after a burst water main caused the ceiling to come down in the hospital’s childrens ward.
The fire brigade were alerted after the incident occurred, at 9.30pm on Monday evening (April 3), flooding the area.
However staff on the Riverbank Unit were quick to react moving all the patients to safety in other parts of the hospital.
A spokesperson for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said: “Overnight we experienced a flood in Riverbank – our children’s ward at Worcestershire Royal Hospital – which was caused by a burst pipe.
“All of the patients were safely moved and cared for by our specialist clinical teams in other areas of the hospital overnight whilst works to repair the area started immediately. “Thanks to estates and facilities teams working through the night to repair the leak and flooded area we have been able to open the majority of the ward this morning (Tuesday, April 4) and the plan is that all of the patients will be moved back in today.”
Following the closure of the childrens ward at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch all paediatric inpatient care is provided at the Riverbank Unit in Worcestershire Royal.
