FANCY being a member of the royal family? Well you could be as Astwood Bank Carnival committee has launched its appeal for suitable Royalty for this year’s event.
Applications are now open until the end of April 2017 for a Carnival Queen and Carnival Prince and Princess.
To be eligible for the role of Queen you need to be aged between 12 and 18 and live within 10 miles of Astwood Bank, you also need to be available for an informal interview with some members of the Carnival committee during the week of May 15.
Although the application date for Carnival Royalty Prince and Princess is the same, the ‘interview’ process is very much focused on a talent competition.
Whether that is sport, dancing, playing a musical instrument, reading a poem all talents are welcome at the Talent event on May 20 at Astwood Bank First School.
To be eligible for either the Prince or Princess roles you must either live in Astwood Bank, or attend school or a club in the area and be aged between six and 11.
Winning applicants will be pampered on Carnival day (July 8) where they will lead the procession around the village in a horse drawn carriage.
They will also be expected to attend a small number of other occasions that the Carnival committee organises throughout the year.
Vicky Johnson who is leading on anointing this year’s royalty said: “Finding Royalty is always great fun, but its extra special this year as we are celebrating our 30th anniversary. Wouldn’t it be lovely to hear from not only applicants this year, but others who have worn the crown with such pride over the years.”
Application forms for all of the roles are available on the carnival website astwoodbankcarnival.co.uk
Unfortunately no applications beyond April can be considered.
