THE Inkberrow community are rallying round for funds in a bid to replace their church roof that was damaged by thieves last week.

The criminals stole lead from the roof of St Peters Church’s in Inkberrow, targeting it multiple times in the same week and the distraught villagers are asking people to dig deep to help them repair it.

The church was hit by thieves during the early hours of Wednesday, March 22 and Sunday, March 26 and dozens of panels of lead were taken, as well as damaging stone work, drains and guttering in the process.

Guy Ledger, Chairman of the Fabric Committee, which is responsible for the upkeep and safety of the church, said: “It is such a shame for the community.

“It’s a massive burden for the church because our insurance company will not cover the costs.

“This is due to a limit on their policy and the labor costs being extremely expensive.”

A funding page has been set up to help raise the funds needed to repair the roof and anyone wishing to donate can visit http://bit.ly/2oIlNxL

The page reads: “We are raising money to repair our beloved church, making it safe and secure for generations to come. No gift is too small.”

Police are also asking for witnesses who might have seen the criminals in action or anything suspicious on either night to come forward by calling 101, referencing number 0211S300317.
