Not so boring after all - Redditch Rotarians lift the lid on their work

A PILOT project to get more people involved in Redditch’s two Rotary clubs has been hailed a resounding success.

Volunteers from the organisation took a stand in Worcester Square in the Kingfisher last week to explain what Rotary is all about and to dispel the myth that its fuddy duddy organisation run by men in suits.

“The aim is to show the breadth and diversity of what Rotary does and to let people realise they are welcome to join us as a volunteer on an ad hoc basis or as a full member,” said Amanda Watkins from Rotary UK’s head office in Alcester.

“We’re showing Rotary at the heart of the community. People think it’s a closed shop but the door is wide open and we want people to come in and be the next generation of community activitists.”

She added that such is the level of expertise within Rotary that there was a wealth of knowledge for people to draw on.
