Poetry in motion for Redditch's Becki in marathon run

Redditch Editorial 29th Apr, 2017   0

A POETIC Redditch woman who joined forces with her mum to complete the gruelling 26 mile London Marathon has raised more than £1,000 to support deafblind children and adults.

Communications manager Becki Hemming took on her first marathon last weekend (Sunday, April 23) to help raise awareness of the work that national disability charity, Sense, does to support people with sensory impairments and complex needs.

Becki, aged 26, was inspired to run for the charity after watching last year’s event and she and her mum Anne, aged 54, decided to take on their epic feat together.

To help raise money for Sense, Becki offered personalised poems in exchange for donations ahead of the race and organised murder mystery nights.

Becki said: “Completing my first marathon for Sense has meant so much to me – the day was incredible and tough in equal measure.

“I wanted to run for Sense as I can’t begin to imagine the challenges faced by deafblind people and their families. It’s been such a worthy cause to raise money for, and I’m very grateful to all the generous people who have supported and sponsored me to run for such a great charity.”
