AN animal-lover from Redditch has made it to the finals of an international beauty pageant and is now in the running to be named Miss Europe.
Rosie Thompson, from Brockhill, will be competing against 25 other girls from around the continent on May 21 in a bid to claim the title.
As part of her work in the community – which is considered by the Miss Europe judges when selecting a winner- Rosie volunteered in Bermuda at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) where she helped to look after some of the many animals in their care.
“I have always been a massive animal lover and when I heard of all of the work the SPCA do for stray, injured and abandoned animals, I decided to visit the sanctuary while I was in Bermuda with work,” she said.
“It was very rewarding seeing how the animals had been given a second chance in life, simply from the good work the volunteers do at the sanctuary, and I will be revisiting on my next trip and bringing some donations such as toys, treats and food, courtesy of Pampered Pets in Redditch.”
The 20 year-old British Airways cabin crew member has also been fundraising for the Royal Marsden’s Cancer Charity with various activities including cake sales in Redditch and London and ran a 5K race at the Olympic Park on Monday (May 1) for the cause.
Rosie, who secured sponsorship for the competition from Ministry of Whitening, has raised £200 for charity already and has plans for a 10K run next month to boost her total.
She said: “I am overwhelmed by all of the support I have received in the run up to the final, and am honoured to be competing in such a prestigious competition.
“I would love to become a role model and represent not only England but also Europe as an ambassador.”
