Alex hospital in Redditch saved my life says Lib Dem candidate Susan Juned

THE Liberal Democrat candidate for the Redditch parliamentary seat says she owes her life to the Alexandra Hospital.

Susan Juned was rushed to the Alex with acute appendicitis and life-threatening peritonitis. She was operated on immediately and has made a full recovery.

“It’s no exaggeration to say that the Alex saved my life,” said the veteran campaigner. “I received excellent treatment there and I’m here to tell the tale as a result.”

Mrs Juned makes the point – she is currently living in Alcester – as a way of illustrating the enormous reach the Woodrow Drive hospital has and the care it provides to an area of more than 200,000 people.

“This General Election is the most important one, certainly in my lifetime, due to Brexit. The prospect of a hard Brexit, which seems to be on the table, is a very serious issue and requires careful thinking by the voters, who need to look at all the options, before making a decision.”

She said she feared a Tory landslide would give them a free hand to do whatever they wanted: “If Theresa May gets a big majority there will be no one to hold her to account. There will be no scrutiny of her decisions.

“As it it she had to be taken to court by Members of Parliament, including her own MPs, to be asked questions over Brexit.”

Mrs Juned is a former environmental consultant and researcher at Birmingham University. She was on Warwickshire County Council for 12 years and was also a Stratford district councillor.

“In this General Election I believe it is very important to make the case against a hard Brexit, which would damage the British economy and the livelihoods of people in Redditch,” she said.

“It is also essential we keep existing services at the Alexandra Hospital and fight for the restoration of maternity and children’s services.’’
