Young Ruby raising funds to fight cancer in Redditch

A GENEROUS youngster from Redditch has organised her own fundraising event including a silent auction in aid of women fighting against cancer.

Eleven-year-old Ruby Craddock is raising money to help the Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer (LFBC) charity and with a little help from her mum, Lisa Naylor, has organised an entire evening in aid of the good cause.

From 5pm on Sunday, May 28 at the The Village Inn in Beoley, Ruby will be welcoming people to a barbecue complete with live music, a glittery hair contest, raffle and silent auction.

The passionate schoolgirl is asking for a minimum donation of £1 entry fee as she wants to raise as much money as possible.

She said: “I chose LFBC because the people who work there don’t get paid, and the money goes towards the hospital equipment or straight to the ladies who need help.

“I really hope lots of people come along to our event because it is going to be a fun and we have a lot of different things going on. I’m even going to be dyeing the landlady, Liz’s hair pink on the night.”

After her mum’s friend was diagnosed with breast cancer on Valentine’s Day four years ago, Ruby decided to back the charity, and having met the women who run LFBC, she has become their youngest regular fundraiser.

Ruby added: “I love raising money for charity. Even though this is my first fundraising event, I’m hoping to do lots and lots more in the future.”

All are welcome to attend and all money raised will go to the charity which works with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham to buy specialist cancer equipment.

Ruby’s mum Lisa said: “I think she is an inspiration, she is so enthusiastic and tries to get everyone involved. I’m very proud of her, as are the rest of our family and friends.”

Any businesses wishing to support Ruby by donating prizes to the silent auction should call Lisa on 07976 327140.
