A REDDITCH first school has been named top of the class for getting its students in the fresh air and learning outside of the classroom.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic First School has been given the Learning Outside the Classroom (LoTC) Mark Bronze award by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOtC) in recognition of the school’s efforts to develop learning outside the classroom across the curriculum.
The award praises schools that have a strong awareness of the benefits of providing regular and progressive outdoor experiences to all pupils, including teaching all subjects outside, running enrichment days and cycling workshops.
Michelle Woods, headteacher at the school on Downsell Road, said: “We are absolutely thrilled, as a school, to receive official recognition for our efforts in ensuring high quality learning experiences and opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom.
“These outdoor opportunities have a huge positive impact on the academic, social and emotional development and well-being of the children.”
Elaine Skates, Chief Executive of CLOtC said: “Learning outside the classroom provides the most memorable experiences in a child’s school life. LOtC Mark (Bronze) demonstrates that the school is committed to developing and delivering genuinely valuable learning outside the classroom experiences for their children and young people.”
