RIDERS from as far afield as Doncaster and Milton Keynes descended on the Redditch BMX track on Sunday (May 14) for the fourth round of the Midlands Regional Championships.
Up against more than 280 competitors, local riders didn’t disappoint with the likes of novices Max Surridge and Jackson Randle emerging victorious in their categories while Joel Stimson and Hannah Drew both finished close seconds and Joaquin Madamba a creditable third.
Hosted by Redditch Premiers BMX Club, who have been at the Olympic standard track since July 2010, it proved to be a fantastic day out of good spirited competitive fun.
Taking part were children as young as three right up to adults.
Steve Rooke from the Icknield Street Drive club said: “BMX Racing is a family sport and it is usual to see parents and their children competing and volunteering in the same event.
“Many of the Redditch Premiers Club BMX Team scoring some impressive wins in both the novice and expert classes with their home track advantage.”
In addition stalls were on had from Bristol based Crucial BMX shop and Studley based Adrenalin Sports Company Fro Systems.
Presiding over events was borough Mayor Councillor Joe Baker who said: “It was amazing to see so many people there enjoying this venue; it is a great asset to Redditch for people of all ages and it was a real pleasure to chat to the racers.”
BMX club nights take place at the flood lit venue on a Tuesday and Thursday 6.15pm to 9pm and the popular coaching sessions are on every Tuesday and all abilities are welcome.
