THE flag over Redditch town hall is to be lowered as a mark of respect following the tragic events in Manchester on Monday evening.
Twenty two people, including children, were killed and 59 were injured in a suicide bomb attack on the Manchester Arena at a concert by American singing star Ariana Grande.
The police have said that the attack was carried out by a lone attacker who died in the blast.
Sixty ambulances attended the scene and the injured and now being cared for at hospitals around Manchester.
Ian Hopkins, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police described the blast as “the most horrific incident” the city had ever faced.
Officer are currently working on whether the attacker was acting alone or was part of a wider network in ‘a fast moving investigation’.
Campaigning in the General Election has been suspended, including in Redditch.
The new Mayor of Redditch, Councillor Jenny Wheeler, and Bill Hartnett will be writing to the mayor of Manchester expressing their deepest sympathy on behalf of the town.
In a joint statement the Chief Constable for West Mercia Police, Anthony Bangham, and the Chief Constable for Warwickshire Police, Martin Jelley said: “Last night’s atrocity at the Manchester Arena has shocked and saddened us all and the thoughts of the officers, staff, special constables and volunteers within West Mercia Police and Warwickshire Police are with those affected.
