REDDITCH shoppers are asked to ”be alert, not alarmed” as new security measures are put into place in the Kingfisher Centre.
With the UK governemtn raising the Terror Threat Level to ‘critical’ the shopping centre has implemented some operational changes that may affect customers.
This morning (Wednesday, May 24) some people experienced problems accessing the shopping centre via the main doors and via the multistory carpark due the changes.
A sign outlining the changes explained that staff employed to work in the centre before 8am had were given designated entrance points to the centre, while customers were advised that access would be delayed until all security measures were put into place. Limited entrances and exits were made available for those shopping and parking.
Centre manager, Ken Williams said: “We are implementing changes to enhance the protection of our customers and staff during the increased threat level.
“We thank customers and staff for their patience, support and understanding. We hope they will be alert, not alarmed.”
Shops and eateries are open as usual and all main doors are now open as usual. It is believed litter bins have been removed as part of the security measures.
