THE Conservatives in Redditch are keeping their fingers crossed for a victory for their candidate Rachel Maclean after what they say has been a positive campaign.
Anita Clayton, party agent said: “It has been a good campaign, we have all worked really hard and Rachel has been out on the streets and knocking on doors and has never stopped.
Hopefully it will work out well for us and we will reap the rewards for all our hard work.
“At the moment we are just hoping she has made it.”
Mike Rouse, campaign co-chair with responsibility for digital content, said he was pleased with how fair the contest had been and singled out Neal Stote, the National Health Action Party candidate and former chair of Save the Alex for fighting a clean campaign.
“The challenge for us now is to engage with people and if it’s gone as we hope it has here in Redditch we will publish a social engagement policy on Rachel’s website so comments do not descend into chaos.”
Mrs Maclean was chosen as the Conservative’s candidate after the sitting MP Karen Lumley, who won the seat in 2010 and successfully defended it with an increased majority in 2015, was forced to stand down due to ill health.
