Independent candidate praises Redditch voters for a 'fantastic turnout'

THE people of Redditch have made ‘a great effort’ to come out and vote, says Independent candidate Sally Woodhall.

She said: “I do not think the timings of the elections were very fair, but I think the people of Redditch have made a great effort to come out and vote. More than 70 per cent is a fantastic turnout result.

“Engaging the younger voters has been a really great experience for me during this election campaign. Taking time to speak to youngsters and first-time voters, and attending school hustings events has been a fantastic way to switch young people on to politics.

“They might not think they’re interested in politics, but I tell them ‘Politics are very interested in you. You can’t complain or expect things to change unless you go out there and vote.’

“I think that Redditch has had enough – people want something to change. It’s been a really tough campaign as an Independent, with lots of challenges – but I’ll definitely be back.”

The turnout in Redditch this year is 70.33 per cent –  an increase from the 2015 election, which saw a turnout of 67.48 per cent.
