Brave Redditch mum taking the plunge for charity

A BRAVE Redditch mum is facing her fears with a nail-biting skydive this weekend, in aid of the charity who helped her son battle cancer.

This Sunday (June 11) Mary Taylor will be taking to the air for a tandem sky dive, raising money for Shine Cancer Support, who specialise in helping young people dealing with cancer.

She said: “I am someone who doesn’t like heights and hates theme parks – but here I am preparing for a skydive.

“Although I am really scared, my fear pales into insignificance when compared with the ordeal faced by those who are being supported by Shine.

“They helped my son so much and I just want to thank them for the support they gave Robin during his illness.”

Mary’s eldest son Robin, then a fit. active, healthy 33 year old, was diagnosed with Burkitts Lymphoma in December 2014 – a type of fast growing cancer.

“It felt as though the bottom had fallen out of our family’s world, particularly as many of those we loved, including all four of Robin’s grandparents and his auntie had lost their battles with cancer. We very much feared the same fate for Robin,” she said.

He had to undertake very intensive chemotherapy during which he lost three stone and all his hair, but he is now back to full health.

She added: “Robin was exceptionally brave throughout his ordeal, – far, far braver than I was.

“Shine gave him much needed support so now I want to do something to support them.”

Mary will be taking her leap of faith at Sibson Airfield in Peterborough and anyone who wants to support her can visit http://bit.ly/2rZvpcz
