AFTER growing concerns about the defibrillator laying redundant at YMCA Redditch, the Rotary Club of Redditch has stepped in to help.

The defibrillator at Gordon Anstis House, Church Hill had been out of use for three years after the YMCA were unable to pay for the upkeep of the life-saving machine, however once alerted to the problem the Rotary Club came to the rescue and donated £287 to maintain the defibrillator.

President of Rotary Club of Redditch, Peter Williams, said “The Club is keen to support local community projects, in line with our motto ”Service above Self.”

The defibrillator was donated to the YMCA by the Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation, which provides community access defibrillators all around Redditch in a bid to save vital time and lives when people go into cardiac arrest. The machine needs replacement pads every two to three years and new batteries every four years to ensure it is in full working order.

YMCA Worcestershire, Head of Adults and Community, Alan Moorhouse, added: “The defibrillator can be a life saving piece of kit, and we are grateful for the donation which enables us to continue to make it available for our residents and the local community.

“We are very grateful to both Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation for initially donating the defibrillator and the Rotary club of Redditch for their ongoing support.”

The youth charity, which runs accommodation, childcare, employability programmes in Worcestershire, has been operating in the area for the past 41 years and currently supports 300 young people and employs 120 local people.
