REDDITCH is gearing up for Armed Forces Day next Saturday, June 24.
The occasion is an opportunity for people to show their support for the men and women serving their country.
The town is the home of the 37th Reserve Signals Regiment which is based in Church Hill and Redditch has a proud tradition of turning out in force for the occasion.
Local dignatories will include the deputy Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, local MP Rachel Maclean plus borough and county councillors.
Past and present members of the armed forces, the Royal British Legion, marching bands and youth organisations will gather outside the town hall at 10.25am.
Departing at 10.30am they will then march up Alcester Street before assembling outside St Stephen’s Church for a short service.
At 11.15am the marchers will return to the town hall where refreshments will be served for members of the armed forces and their families.
Councillor Bill Hartnett, the leader of Redditch borough council, said: “Armed Forces Day is a very important occasion in these time we live in now.
“I would encourage everyone to come along on June 24 to show our respect and gratitude.
“And it is not only for members of the forces but their families too which is why we will be hosting a reception for them at the town hall.”
