Redditch MP Rachel Maclean speaks over health trust 'inadequate' rating

THE new MP for Redditch Rachel Maclean has voiced her disappointment following the Care Quality Commission report issued today (Tuesday) after its inspection of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in November and December 2016.

The overall rating for the Trust was ‘inadequate’ and the CQC is recommending it remains in ‘special measures’ until further review.

The Trust has been in ‘special measures’ since November 2015.

“While I am encouraged that the Trust has been acknowledged as a caring organisation, leadership has been identified as a continuing problem,” said Mrs Maclean.

“Although I recognise a plan is in place to tackle the more urgent problems, people have a right to expect to see results – and quickly.

“I have pledged as part of my 12-point election plan to hold Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to account, and as part of that promise I shall be keeping a very close eye on the situation going forward.

“I have already requested an urgent meeting with Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, and shall be meeting with hospital Trust chief executive Michelle McKay.”

The new MP has also received reassurance from Redditch Police following the weekend attack on Finsbury Park worshippers in London.

She was keen to gain assurance for the safety of Redditch residents following a terror attack where a van collided with pedestrians near a London mosque on Sunday night.

She said: “I am appalled at events in Finsbury Park and my thoughts go out to those affected. At the same time I have been assured by Redditch Police chiefs that they are working closely with community leaders and that nothing is causing concern at this time in Redditch.

“It is Ramadan at the moment, and Eid is coming up, and I am told by police they have agreed with community leaders what intervention the community wants around mosques at this time.”
