A SPRIGHTLY Studley man celebrated his 100th birthday this week in splendid weather on the summer solstice.
On Wednesday Clarence Dier – who is known to everyone as Jim – turned 100 years old at Woodlands Residential Care Home in Studley.
With his friends and family by his side, as well as staff from the care home, Jim marked the landmark with a quiet celebration in the sunshine.
After a buffet lunch organised by the home, Jim spent time in the garden with some of his family – and an all-important telegram from the Queen.
Born on June 21, 1917, Jim was a baker for the Armed Forces. The centenarian, who enjoys reading and word puzzles, has a son and daughter, several grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Jim has lived in Studley and Alcester his whole life and in his younger years was a very keen cyclist – sometimes cycling up to 100 miles in a day with his cycling club.
