A REDDITCH community centre is has been awarded £20,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to update and revamp its base.

Redditch Youth & Community Enterprise (RYCE) has been given the cash to complete plans for a total refurbishment of its Redi Centre building.

The grant will fund professional fees and business planning for the refurbishment of the outdated community building, covering costs for architectural surveys.

If successful in the next stage of their funding application process, RYCE may be awarded more than £400,000, enabling the centre to further enhance their facilities, including a new ‘Changing Place’ together with a lift to the first floor, increasing disabled access throughout the building.

Chairman Ray Groves said: “We are very excited and pleased to be able to kick-start our plans to improve the Redi centre for the whole community to use.

“To be able to bring the building up to modern standards and make it more eco-friendly as well as accessible for everyone is a fantastic prospect.”

RYCE provides a wide range of activities for young people, including four youth groups, as well as activities for the whole local community.

Ray added: “These are exciting times for RYCE and with the increased use of the Redi Centre we need more volunteers to join us.

“If you have a few hours to spare and would like to help out in our reception area, gardening, administration, fundraising or event organising please contact us or drop in for a coffee and a chat.

We are all volunteers with a mission to provide a vibrant community hub for everyone to enjoy.”
