Going swimmingly: Amelia in four-medal haul

A REDDITCH schoolgirl has been swimming her way to international success, bringing home four medals from a recent competition in the Netherlands.

Nine-year-old Amelia Wise, who attends Beoley First School, swam in the Novum Invitational Swimming Competition in Eindoven with Redditch Swimming Club and won two silver medals for 100m freestyle and 50m back stroke and two bronze medals for 100m backstroke and 100m individual medley.

Competing against swimmers from America, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Ireland and other English clubs including Pershore, Amelia showed off her talents in the water and scooped prizes in the four separate events.

The Year Four pupil was excited to show off her achievements and brought her newly acquired medals into school to share with her friends last week.

A spokesperson for the school said: “We are immensely proud of Amelia’s achievements.

“To travel to the Netherlands to represent her swimming club is amazing in itself, but to return with four medals is outstanding. We look forward to seeing her at the Olympics.”
