Alcester school seeking help to save their library

YOUNGSTERS at an Alcester school could lose their much-loved library if funds cannot be raised to save the historic building’s roof.

Members of PTA at Dunnington’s Primary School have started a campaign called Raise the Roof in a bid to save their old Chapel roof, which badly needs replacing after many years of weathering.

Members of the local community and past pupils are invited to play a part in the Chapel’s history by sponsoring a tile to help fix the leaking roof.

To sponsor a tile costs £10 and donors will be able to sign, dedicate or even draw a picture on the underside of a tile that will be used on the new roof. These tiles will then become part of the school’s chapel library building for generations to come.

Sponsors will also have their name inscribed on a plaque placed on the front of the chapel as a thank you.

The Chapel was built in 1876 as a school for the children of the workers of Ragley Hall and is a beautiful, historic building which now houses the current school’s library.

Essential repair work to make the library weatherproof and keep the car park and playgrounds safe is planned to go ahead during the summer holidays to minimise disruption to the children.

Anyone who would like to make a donation can contact the school’s PTA on [email protected] or call 01789 772200.
