The sky is the limit for Alcester's Christine

A DARING Alcester lady will be taking to the skies next month for a tandem skydive to mark her 75th birthday.

Alcester Legion member Christine Scott will be taking the leap of faith on August 12 to raise money for The Alcester Poppy Appeal.

The daring septuagenarian is looking forward to the event which will see her jump out of a plane at 13,000 feet and plummet at around 120mph.

After covering thousands of feet in around five seconds, her instructor will deploy the parachute and the pair will glide back down to solid ground.

“It’s my big challenge for my 75th year,” said Christine, who lives at Malin Court in Alcester.

“I’ve had the leaflet about skydiving for several years, tucked in the back of my diary. Every year, I put it off saying ‘next year will be the year’.

“But when we had a guest speaker at one of the Legion meetings, who had done a jump – as a joke, I asked for some tips. To be honest, it gave me the confidence to actually call up and book my own dive. I really can’t wait.”

Any money raised from people sponsoring her will go towards the Poppy Appeal, the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign held every year to remember the fallen Service men and women killed in conflict.

To sponsor Chrstine, simply write out a cheque payable to Alcester Royal British Legion and send it to her at Malin Court.
