New political party launched in Redditch

Redditch Editorial 23rd Jul, 2017   0

A NEW political party has been launched by Redditch resident Sally Woodhall, who stood as an independent candidate in the last General Election.

Ms Woodhall, who polled just 99 votes in the election of June 8, believes she was discriminated against as an independent and that ‘thousands’ would have voted for her if she had been treated fairly.

She says that with a surname beginning with a ‘W’ hers was the last name on the ballot paper and the refusal to allow her to use a logo because she wasn’t a member of a political party, had meant many had missed her name at polling stations.

Furthermore, despite taking part in two hustings in the run up to the election, she was blocked from joining one for BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester.

“I feel I was treated badly and so do many of my friends,” said the Greenlands resident.

Now she has launched the Party of Democracy – or PoD – complete with its own logo.

Ms Woodhall is a former member of Ukip and stood for that party in the county council elections just before the General Election.

She said her new party already has 30 members and its policies would include people having to speak a basic standard of English, and the enforcement of ‘British laws’.

However she denied she was against immigration but said her party would ‘push for the Brexit we wanted’.
