Redditch lads swinging into action to take on a big challenge

FOUR Redditch lads took to the golf course last week for a game that lasted more than 14 hours – all in the name of charity.

Junior golfing buddies, Josh Wood, Ryan Sellars, Archie Venn and Sam Ellis, who all belong to Redditch Golf Club, decided to take on a 72 hole challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

After teeing off at 5am, the four friends continued around the course until 7.10pm – clocking up 14 hours, 72 holes and raising £1,440 for the charity between them.

Fifteen year-old Josh had recently lost his mum to cancer, so the group decided to do something positive together in her memory.

They devised the mammoth golfing event and with the support of the golf club and their parents, successfully completed the challenge in aid of the caring charity.

Archie, also age 15, said: “We would definitely take on the challenge again next year. It was a great experience for a good cause and we all really enjoyed it.”

Archie’s mum, Julie Venn added: “All of us parents are extremely proud of the boys because they organised it all themselves. It was a huge challenge and they really did themselves proud.”
