WEST Mercia police and crime commissioner, John Campion, is urging to voice their opinion on his idea of having a single body holding both chief police and fire officers to account, writes Kieran Kelly.
The move, which aims to save £4million would join West Mercia Police, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service under one single overall command.
PCC Campion says his plan would ensure the services continue to operate as individual organisations with their own budgets, however they would be able to share more resources to improve efficiency.
Eric Carter, chairman of Shropshire and Wrekin Fire and Rescue Authority, has previously raised concerns about the plan, saying: “Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is already lean and efficient so in our view £4 million of further savings can only come through job losses.”
