A FREE centennial tea party is being for pensioners in Redditch organised by the local Lions Club.
Brian Rich from the Lions said: “100 years ago, a Chicago businessman called Melvin Jones thought his luncheon club members should put their talents to use serving the local community, and formed the first Lions Club in July 1917.
“Since then, his simple community service idea has become more than 46,000 Lions Clubs worldwide with more than 1.4 million members, Lions who want to serve their community. How’s that for a 100 year-old idea?”
He added: “Redditch Lions Club, a mere 45 years-old, is one of those Lions clubs and we are proud to be members of such a large not-for-profit service organisation.
“To celebrate 100 years of Lions service, we would like to invite 100 pensioners from the local community to join us for a traditional English Tea Party on Wednesday, September 20 at the White Hart Inn, Headless Cross.
“Tea, sandwiches and cakes will be offered to our guests, and there will also be music and entertainment. Please note the tea party is by invitation only.”
The party is free and any Redditch pensioner who wishes to join the party should print off and fill in the coupon and return it to the address on the coupon by August 31, 2017.
Invitations will be sent to the first 100 requests returned. More information about the event can be found at www.redditchlions.org.uk or call 0845 833 5914.
