New West Mercia Police phone app helps children stay safe online

A MOBILE phone app is being promoted by West Mercia Police to help young people stay safe both off and online, writes Kieran Kelly.

The app deals with five areas which include anti-social behaviour, hate crime, healthy relationships, bullying and theft and allows users to take part in virtually created scenarios.

Named ‘Choice: stay safe, be aware’, the app was designed with the help of three local schoolgirls as a part of a competition ran by West Mercia Police back in 2015.

After beating the competition, the girls worked with students from the University of Worcester to make their idea come to life and finally launched the app earlier this summer, with funding from West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion.

He said: “Our young people are one of the most vulnerable groups in society, so we need to do all we can to keep them safe.”

The app can now be downloaded for free on the App Store and GooglePlay by youngsters across the country.
