GREEDY thieves had to make a run for it after police turned up just as they were about to try and steal a road trailer.
The incident happened at 4.45pm on Saturday, August 12, when the offenders, who arrived a black Volkswagen Passat, broke into a house in Tanworth Lane Beoley.
Once inside they stole the keys to a silver Mercedes Sprinter van, however they later returned to try and steal the trailer which was also on the premises.
As they left in the Passat, the police arrived, forcing the culprits, two men, to run for it.
Officers called up the police helicopter and a dog unit but the men managed to get away.
The van is still missing, but police have the Passat which also contained various power tools.
Officers say enquiries are ongoing.
