Redditch MP Rachel Maclean visits the Valley Stadium as season kicks off

RACHEL Maclean, MP for Redditch paid a visit to Redditch United last Friday to see behind-the-scenes preparations for the new season.

She was joined by Redditch council Conservative leader Juliet Brunner, as club chairman Chris Swan outlined the plans he has for the future.

These include expanding the stands and other facilities for enhanced hospitality, community and commercial functions, including classrooms for academy students.

Mrs Maclean said: “I saw the pitch, grounds and changing rooms, and it was good to see the club working in partnership with fire and police authorities as well as the council, with hubs in various parts of the town, so their community involvement is impressive.”

Project work is taking place for young people aged 12 to 16 involving sports but also education, support and other services at the heart of communities.

“Expansion will provide more opportunities for local businesses to help in their local communities – something I know many businesses are interested in doing and which I welcome,” added Mrs Maclean.

Key companies who have supported this so far are GKN and Lear Corporation and the club hopes more will follow.

The club, which plays in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier, is targeting to be in the second Conference league within five years – and got off to a cracking start with a 5-0 win over Dunstable on Saturday.
