Redditch man's loss will be charity’s gain

Redditch Editorial 26th Aug, 2017   0

IT may be August but Tim Recardo will be feeling the chill after having his long locks and beard shaved off for charity last Friday.

Tim’s tresses had grown so long they’d started to irritate work mate and follicly challenged friend Mick Senior who’d started a campaign at their Thermex factory to have them lopped off.

And on Friday, and after much nagging, work halted at the Moons Moat maker of high end heat exchangers and radiators for Mick’s dream to come finally true.

Wielding a pair of fairly blunt scissors and with a look of intense concentration, the Winyates resident got to work, sawing off Tim’s pony tail to start with before getting to work with the electric clippers.

“They’ve always hated my long hair and Mick’s been saying I should get it cut and it sort of snowballed from there,” said Tim, aged 41, from Smallwood.

“In the end we decided it should be done for a reason and we chose Cancer Research UK.”

Mick meanwhile was full of admiration for his friend: “He’s been a great sport about it,” he said.

“I have family who have cancer, including a brother in law who they said was going to die eight years ago, but he’s still going strong, so it’s a very worthwhile cause.”

So far £400 has been pledged and Tim’s total on Just Giving is creeping ever nearer that target. To make a donation visit www.justgiving.com/ and search for Timmy Head Shave.

And Tim’s shave isn’t the only fund raising going on at Thermex with engineering principal Ivan Robinson pledging to cycle 300 miles in September for Macmillan Cancer Support.

He starts on September 2 with the 33 mile Stratford Tempest Ride.
