PEOPLE from Redditch are aiming to raise as much as possible to help farmers on the other side of the world grow enough food to eat.
This time last year they collected £1,426 as part of development charity CAFOD’s annual Harvest appeal.
CAFOD is working with communities like those in El Salvador, Central America where farming is the main profession but the land is often difficult to grow food on, and farmers may use substandard seeds that only last one harvest and cannot cope with pests, or that need special fertiliser to grow.
The charity’s partners are helping those crops to flourish by using native seeds and seed banks as well as offering training on how to make organic fertiliser and pesticides, and how to care for the environment.
CAFOD’s representative for Redditch, Julia Hood, said: ‘Harvest is a time of abundance of both crops and of life in the community. This event shows the abundance of compassion in Redditch. Its kindness will help communities in El Salvador and around the world.”
