A REDDITCH Scout Leader is set to embark on a trip to make a positive impact to a Ugandan orphanage.

Harry Sargent, the Assistant Group Scout Leader at 1st Matchborough Scout Group, will be volunteering at Kerry West Orphanage in the south west corner of Uganda at Lake Bunyonyi.

The orphanage cares for 95 children aged from two to 12-years-old, many of whom are orphaned due to Aids or because their parents cannot afford to look after them.

The project in June 2018 will involve much needed building work to extend the accommodation and school buildings as at the moment the boys and girls are sharing a dormitory. The project will last for three weeks with most of the time being spent on the building site, working alongside local people and getting to know the youngsters.

Harry said: “I am thrilled to be involved in this expedition in aid of such a worthy cause as Kerry West Orphanage. I expect this will be one of the toughest challenges of my life but knowing it will help to improve the lives of vulnerable children makes it all worthwhile.”

Harry will be fundraising for the charity before his departure by taking part in a number of presentations to local organisations and charities and by hosting events such as a ‘Fish and Chips and Quiz’ evening on November 18 at 1st Matchborough Scout Hut. All funds raised for this expedition will go towards making lasting change in the rural community in Uganda.
