Studley parish reject pizza parlour

Redditch Editorial 11th Nov, 2017   0

AN application to open a Dominos Pizza parlour on the site of the former Lloyds Bank in Studley received short shrift from parish councillors on Tuesday night.

Councillors voiced fears of increased traffic, congestion and litter and the lack of parking.

They also hit out at the possible loss of daytime commercial premises to the night economy describing it as detrimental to the viability to the mix of shops and businesses in Studley.

Coun Neil Edden added that with Dominos in Redditch already offering free delivery to Studley there was no strategic reason for the pizza parlour.

Earlier the meeting had been addressed by Castle Road resident Bernice Cetin whose husband owns the long established fish and chip shop on the Alcester Road.

She said the village already had three pizza takeaways and certainly didn’t need a fourth.

She also suggested the proposed Redditch Eastern Gateway development could be the reason behind the application.

Members voted unanimously to reject the plans which will now go forward to Stratford District Council for consideration.
