Taking steps to beat the freeze in Redditch

Redditch Editorial 11th Dec, 2017   0

WRAP up warm and discover the joys of winter walks this season – with the Arrow Valley Health Walkers.

The group celebrated Christmas early this week by finishing their weekly walk with a festive meal at the Golden Goose pub – a celebration ahead of the 30th anniversary of the annual Festival of Winter Walks.

During the festival supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery which runs from December 23 until January 7, the Walkers will be encouraging people to join them on their walks and inspire volunteers to become walk leaders.

Walking is a great form of exercise and the health walks are designed to give get people outdoors in the fresh and get bitten by the healthier lifestyle bug.

The Arrow Valley Walkers take part in free, volunteer-run walks which leave from the park’s Visitors Centre each Monday morning at 11am.

The walks are backed by Redditch Borough Council and as well as being very social also stop for a cup of tea or coffee in the café afterwards.

Councillor Pat Witherspoon, whose portfolio covers Leisure and Cultural Services, said: “If you feel like you’re in danger of overindulging during Christmas then Walks for Health is a great way to kickstart the New Year.

“It’s gentle, fun and social and the Festival of Winter Walks offers an easy way to head out for a winter wander with friends and family.”

Another Health Walkers group runs on Thursday mornings at 11am from the Visitor Centre for more confident walkers able to walk up to five miles.
