A GRAND total of £1,900 has been raised by the Rotary Club of Redditch’s Big Band Christmas Concert at Trinity High School.
Starring the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra (MYJO) a packed house enjoyed a real festive treat.
The band, made up of the finest young musicans aged 17 to 25 and directed by John Ruddick MBE, delivered powerful renditions of big band classics, with a sprinkling of seasonal favourites to get the audience into the Christmas spirit.
Particular highlights included vocal soloist Katy Gaskin, who also dueted with guest soloist Paul Drakeley in the second half.
The Mayor of Redditch, Councillor Jenny Wheeler, was in attendance with Consort Steve Wheeler, as guests of Rotary President Malcolm Jones.
Also present were a number of professional musicians who are avid followers of MYJO, including former members of the orchestra.
With an audience of nearly 200, the event raised £1,900 for charity, to be shared between MYJO’s work in music education, and Rotary’s current local charity, Batchley Support Group.
