WHEN Reg Day turned up for an appointment and clapped eyes on the nurse receptionist, he asked for a date on the spot.
And as Margaret Rose’s shift ended, he duly turned up to wait for her, as was her original date for the evening.
However Margaret left with Reg, saying hello to the other date as they walked past and the rest, as they say, is history.
That was back in the 1950s and today, March 7, Reg and Margaret celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Both born and bred in Redditch, the couple married at St George’s Church in Smallwood in 1953 and went on to have four children, 13 grandchildren and currently have 15 great grandchildren.
Reg, now 86, worked at High Duty Alloys ‘The Alloys’ – now Mettis Aerospace – for 41 years while Margaret, aged 81, worked as a dressmaker until all the children had left home when she returned to nursing.
