YOUNG WRITERS from Redditch are being urged to enter the National Young Writers’ Awards 2018.
The free competition, organised by Explore Learning, is open to all children aged between four and 14 years old and will run until April 29.
2018’s theme is ‘Heroes’ and children are being tasked with writing a 500-word story about their heroes, whether that be one with superpowers or one in everyday life.
This is the longest running writing competition for children and this year’s judge is none other than best-selling children’s author David Walliams who has become one of the most influential children’s writers of recent times.
Walliams has had ten novels, three short stories and six picture books published, amassing global sales of more than 23million copies.
The author said: “It is a real privilege to be named judge for this year’s National Young Writers’ Awards and I am so looking forward to reading what the brilliant brains of our country’s children come up with.”
The winner will scoop a trip to Disneyland Paris and £500 worth of books for their school.
Top ten entries receive £250 worth of books for their school plus a large print of the opening line of their story by QuirkyLime. Regional winners will receive £50 worth of books for themselves.
To enter, pick up an entry form from the Explore Learning Centre inside the town’s Sainsburys.
