IT WAS lights, camera and action on March 7, when Birchensale Middle School raised the curtain on its first ever talent show.
Prior to performing in the grand final, the children had to get through two rounds of knockout auditions.
Organiser Melanie Vaughan was determined that the show would really exhibit the raw talent in the school.
“I wanted to do something different that had not been done in school before and the dream was to put on a show to rival anything that could be seen in any theatres!” she said.
Approximately 50 acts entered the show and these were gradually whittled down to 13 finalists.
The sports hall was turned into a glamorous theatre and the show opened with a fanfare of music and the judges were then in for an evening of hard decision-making.
There were a few shock exits as the three final acts were decided on: Expressive dancer Rachel Whiley, Year 5 drama performers The Twists and Bollywood star Zara Kayani.
The results were revealed from a golden envelope with the winner announced to a shower of gold and silver confetti – Zara Kayani who stole the show with her dance routine.
The event also raised more than £500 for Birchensale’s twin school in Mtwara in Tanzania.
