A BIKE riding group from Redditch are set to take to the roads again, cycling to Bournemouth in a bid to raise money for local families and children, writes Sophie Wheeler.

Laurence O’Connor, aged 44, from Church Hill will embark on the 160 mile journey at the end of July, for a cause close to one of the bike riders hearts.

The group have taken part in two previous bike rides to Weston-super-Mare and Blackpool in the last two years.

They have raised altogether over £5,000 from their previous efforts and plan to further add to that by involving local pubs to gain more publicity and awareness.

Laurence said: “I like doing it for local families and want to give something back to the community.

“We started off small but now there’s more people getting involved because of publicity which is amazing.”

The ride will see the group leave Church Hill at around five in the morning and end up reaching Bournemouth the same day.

He said: “We’re all just local friends and a good bunch of lads who love it because we are doing something for the community.

“We want to make poorly children’s dreams come true.”

The two previous charity bike rides have seen the group raise money for two girls from Redditch with serious illnesses who have greatly benefited from the money that was raised.

There are currently eight people taking part in the challenge in July, with the goal to raise as much money as possible.
