REGULARS at The Eagle Inn on Evesham Road will be lacing up their football boots after it was picked to take part in the BT Sports Pub Club, writes Annie Davidson.
In all 800 teams were randomly selected out of the thousands of BT playing pubs that apply and after two years, the Crabbs Cross pub was lucky enough to snatch a place in the community football competition.
Landlady Becky Rowlands said: “We’re very much a community pub and when so many are being closed down, it’s really good to be recognised. We’re really proud.”
Starting off as a seven-a-side, the regional tournaments are played at six football stadiums across the UK and teams taking part will have all their kit supplied by Pro-direct.
The tournament and semi-finals will then turn into an 11-a-side tournament to take place at the national football centre at St George’s Park, near Burton, before the final at the home of Leicester City, on Saturday, June 2.
The two finalists will also be managed and coached by BT Sport pundits, former Wales internationals Robbie Savage and John Hartson.
The Eagle Inn’s first match is on May 14 at The Hawthorns, home of West Bromwich Albion.
