COOKHILL resident Shane Simpson has raised another £2,050 for a charity close to his heart after completing the London marathon, writes Neil Gordon.
Shane ran the marathon to raise funds for Beating Bowel Cancer UK after his mother Ann was diagnosed with the disease in 2012.
He’s now raised around £5,000 for the charity in just three years through a string of fund raising effortsafter other fund-raising events have been held to support the national charity.
Shane completed the 26 mile course in 6 hours and 40 seconds and said: “I paced myself due to the heat, other runners were collapsing along the route. “I’m also thinking about running the Dublin Marathon in October, and the London Marathon again next year.
He added: “Mum’s really proud.”
